Consumer protection in the Republic of Armenia is entering a new stage of development, forming a more solid legislative framework
On July 3, 2025, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia adopted a comprehensive legislative package amending the Law “On Protection of Economic Competition” and several related laws, developed jointly by the Ministry of Economy and Competition Protection Commission.
These changes are significant steps forward in strengthening consumer protection system in Armenia. They are aimed at developing and implementing an effective and comprehensive framework, in line with the obligations undertaken by the Republic of Armenia under the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
With the package of legislative amendments, among others, were defined:
Mandatory requirements for displaying the unit price of products, enhancing price transparency and compatibility;
Unfair commercial practices, including misleading and aggressive conduct;
Stronger legal provisions to address unfair conditions in consumer contracts;
Expanded liability of Competition Protection Commission central authority and official contact point to represent the collective interests of consumers.
To reflect its expanded mandate, Competition Protection Commission will be renamed on Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
These reforms mark a pivotal development in Armenia’s economic governance and consumer rights landscape, promoting a fairer, more accountable market environment for both businesses and consumers alike.
The reform package comes into force on August 1, 2025.
