The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global forum assisting Member States in their fight against illicit drugs, crime and terrorism. Since 2007, the UNODC set up a consultative platform of experts from governments, international organisations and the private sector, to pool experience and develop strategies on combating identity-related crime. The first meeting of the expert group was held in Italy in November 2007, in conjunction with an International Conference on identity related-crime. Building on the conclusions of both the expert group meeting and the International Conference, the UNODC is working with governments, the private sector to develop guidelines, best practices and training materials in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of identity-related crime. The fourth meeting of the expert group will be held in Vienna on 18-22 January 2010.
